Opening Night!
By Dennis O’Neil
Welcome race fans! Cabin fever is finally coming to an end!
As race tracks open all across the region one needs to keep in mind that many of the facilities are under new management. People venturing into a new business experience in difficult times should be applauded. Opening night for a new promoter is very much different than anything most of us have ever experienced. There are so many variables and so many unknowns that a new promoter has to grow into his position. Give the promoter time for they are dealing with a work in progress!
Make sure the track owner and promoter know and understand that they are appreciated. It is not an easy task to operate a race track. There is never a time when everybody is happy. If you experience something distasteful at a track let the management know, discreetly and intelligently articulate the problem. Most business people welcome constructive comments.
This time of the year one should go to the track prepared for any type of weather. We
Be supportive of the entire racing family. In this difficult economy many people will experience shortness of temper, displays of anger and outright dismay over situations that would not normally cause such a response. Try to find something positive in every situation. These times we live in are filled with negativity. One needs hope and optimism to move forward.
Let the sponsors of racing know you saw their business represented at the track. Don’t take sponsors for granted, without their generosity the show you enjoy would be severely handicapped. If a sponsor knows their message is getting noticed they will be inclined to increase their level of involvement in our sport.
Most importantly get out and enjoy what local auto racing has to offer. Going to the track is one of the highest bangs for your buck entertainment values available today!
