Xtreme Racecars victim of theft

xtremePolice want to find the thief who stole more than $30,000 worth of racing equipment from an Isabella County business.

The break-in at Xtreme Race Cars happened some time on Monday. Police say among the items taken were a race engine, carburetors, transmissions, starters, a welder and other parts related to the building of race cars and racing engines.

Police are also investigating a similar theft that happened about a month ago within a mile of Xtreme Race Cars.

The 36-year-old construction worker, who races as a hobby, said he noticed the door to the garage that is home of Xtreme Race Cars, his dirt-track racing company that he drivers for and operates at 10844 East River in Mount Pleasant, was cracked Monday afternoon. Upon investigation, he found his $12,000 Foltz engine, various Snap-on brand tools, carburetors, transmissions, starters and a welder were stolen — the total value of the heist estimated about $30,000.

He said it appeared the lock was popped and there were no signs of forced entry and the burglary likely happened between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

State police Mount Pleasant Post officials said a similar crime occurred at the nearby home of another racing enthusiast about a month ago and they believe the crimes could be related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police Mount Pleasant Post at 773-5951.

Robinson said the engine alone weighs about 400 pounds and thieves likely had a truck and used Robinson's hoist to load the engine and other parts. He said both of the racing team’s cars were broken down for the year and nothing was engraved, but it is insured.
