In the fall there is a certain melancholy feeling we all get as the cars get rolled onto the trailer for the final time of the season. At least during the off season, there are a number of traditions that we fondly look forward to. Time honored traditions such as telling lies about the race season that just ended, making projections about the next year’s season, attending the MSTRC bowling tournament and eating so much food that you will have to buy a larger driving suit.
Even though racing has started in some areas, a lot of short track fans we are still many weeks away from firing up the engines. What do you do to scratch that racing itch in the mean time? Watch replays of NASCAR races you TIVOed back in July when you were too busy to tune in? Dream up new and creative ways of getting around tech inspections? Put your tongue to the frozen roll bar of your car to see if it sticks?
Why not come try your hand at racing on-line from the comfort of your own home, with the Michigan Circle Track Sim-Racing League? Our winter season has just ended and our spring season gets underway April 6th. Whether it is the beginning middle or end of the season, there is always room for new drivers. It is fun, highly competitive and no one will even know that you are actually wearing that silly sweat shirt Aunt Edna gave you for Christmas.
Almost any computer built in the past few years should be capable of running the simulation software required to race. All you need to get on the track and run some practice laps is a keyboard, but if you want to participate in an actual race, a wheel and pedal set for your PC is required.
As the league enters its second year we have a great schedule lined up, with a good mix of tracks we have visited before and some that the league will be hitting for the first time. We have even included our first ever dirt track in the series. Also beginning with the spring season, there will be a trophy awarded to the Champion. The league is proud to honor the memory of John Hernly’s Mother, who recently lost her long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The MCT-SRL Championship award will be the Loretta Hernly Cup.
The MCT-SRL 2010 Spring Season schedule is below. I hope to see you on Tuesday nights for year-round racing action.
