The 2008 Auto City Super Stock/Pro-Late Model Champion, Terry Bogusz, has put his “bowtie” in the drawer and is trying on a First On Race Day Ford Fusion for the 2009 season.
“After winning a Championship in the Chevy last year we wanted to see if we could repeat it with a different manufacturer,” Terry said. “Plus, Ford is trying to increase involvement in grass roots racing. We wanted to reap some of the benefits available with better support from our manufacturer.”
Auto City’s Super Stock/Pro-Late Models are template-bodied cars with Super Late Model tube chassis, tires and spec crate motors.
“The theory behind the pro-late models is to minimize cost for the teams and to level the playing field on the track,” Terry said. “I like them because they equalize the playing field. They put the driver back behind the wheel.
“Once people understand the concept of pro-late models I think they will find the same benefits that I have, and the idea should really catch on. This is the only thing that has come along in the last 10 years to actually save drivers money in the long run.”
With Terry’s love for driving, it’s no wonder Auto City is his home track.
“Auto City is a very technical track,” Terry said. “Both ends of the track are totally different. You’re not just going around in circles at Auto City, you have to learn to drive the track.”
Fast Company Motor Sports is sponsored by Ford Racing, The Traffic Light in Mt. Clemens, JOMAR Performance Products, R.J.F. Safety Equipment and High Performance Motor Sports.
The team is built to win Championships, just like its cars.
Terry’s wife, Kathy, is part owner and the team's Accountant, Mike Willhite heads up the team as Crew Chief, Terry’s Dad handles the Data, Stats and is tremendous support for the team, Jack Varney, Jr. is the #1 spotter, the great looking cars come from the expertise and keen eye of Dan Krawczyk, Bob Varney sets up the chassis, Second Spotter, Kyle Maki, also handles the tires with Jim Efaw and the PR is handled by Gary P. Bogusz.
Driving may be his true love in racing, but that’s not all Terry does.
“I like every aspect of racing,” Terry said. “Building engines, building cars, figuring out the right set-up, all of it. Being able to drive what I build is a real thrill for me.”
Imagine sitting in a car you built, behind the starting line, just waiting for the green flag to drop. Feeling a little excited? That’s how Terry feels every Saturday night at Auto City.
“I get anxious. I’m just sitting there waiting,” Terry said. “Waiting to see all 24 cars go into turn one. Waiting to see if everyone makes it out the other end.
“Racing is all I know. It’s the best form of competition. I like being able to build something with my own two hands and then get something to come out of it. And the camaraderie amongst the drivers and crews is a huge part of it, too.”
