With nearly 50 cars on hand for the second night of racing at the Speedpark, fans were greeted with awesome car counts and tons of action on and off the track.
Fast time honors for the night went to Michael Gold in the late models, Jordan Pruitt in the Anne Wilson memorial modifieds, Cecil Piche in the factory stocks, Bill Cryderman in the pure stocks and Gordon Hunt in the Allstar Graffix 4 cylider division.
The 4 car dashes were very close with competition, Jeremy Van Hoek picked up the win over John Clausen, Michael Gold and Josh Ware in the late models, George Wilson won the modified dash over Jay Polumbo, Dennis Ulhman and Jordan Pruitt. Mark Baudoin picked up where he left off last week with the win over Larry Young Jr., Cecil Piche and Todd Jackson. Pure stock action saw John Clausen doing double duty and grabbing the victory over Ray Golladay Sr., Bill Cryderman and 2nd generation driver Ray Golladay Jr. Gordon Hunt would try to make it a clean sweep tonight by taking fast time, dash, Aussie and feature, but could not get it done. He would take the dash win over Don Dangler, Ron Etcher and Dan Autore. Hunt would take the only Aussie of the night.
Heat race action would see John Clausen with a strong run winning the late model race as the whole pack was no more than a half car lenght apart the whole race. Ware, VanHoek, Gold, Hitchings, Leanard and Pieri would be the finishing order of the race.
James Brown took off like a dog after a car and would have no competition even close to him in the 10 lap affair. Veteran driver Rick Ellis was not able to make the call for the event, as he had a clutch fail durring hot laps forcing him to be sidelined for the night. Finishing order would be Brown, Wilson, Pruitt, Polumbo, Uhlman, McBee, Parsons, King and Maverick.
Factory Stock action would see Larry Young pick up the win over Cecil Piche in a very hard fought battle. These guys are racing really hard this season, cars were grouped so tight together that you could not tell where one began and the other started. Tod Jackson would take the 3rd spot over Mike Fox, Mark Baudoin, Paul Fox, Cody McClain, Josh Maitland and Randy Miller.
John Clausen would use a 3-5 car lead to take the victory over Bill Cryderman, Golladay Sr, Golladay Jr, Clancy, Etcher and Patero in the pure stock heat.
The 4 cylinder class was full of fender rubbing and bumping. Gordon Hunt would come from mid pack and steel the win from Ron Etcher. These two drivers would trade paint all night and some pretty harsh words would be said, but both cars would make it through the feature. Heat race finish would be Hunt, Etcher, Dangler, Marcoux, Hubble, Miller, Autore, Norman and Petrangelo. Petrangelo would pull pitside with mechanical issues. Rob Isrow was also on hand but did not have all of the bugs worked out of the blue Dodge Neon.
Feature time! The best part of the night. Josh Ware would pick up his 3rd win of the 2009 season. The race would start and immediatly go to caution due to contact with a group of cars. Mick Pieri would pull in pit side with damage ending his run. That would be the only caution of the race.
Feature finish: Ware, VanHoek, Gold, Clausen, Leanard, Hitchings, Bohling and Pieri.
Modifieds would see some of the most scary scenes of the night. Maverick would charge through the pack and take over the top spot as the race just passed the halfway point. Jay Polumbo would have a near spin in 3 and 4 losing a few positions, but would later gain them back. Rookie driver Keith King would lose control on the front strech, looping out and resting dead center on the front stretch. Cars veered in all directions to avoid the crash, with George Wilson deciding to take a spin in the mud over hitting the stalled ride of King. All cars would restart with no damage.
Feature finish: Maverick, Uhlman, Wilson, Pruitt, Polumbo, Brown, McBee, Parsons, and King
Factory stock action would see the whole pack go 2 wide the entire race nose to tail. Paul Fox would earn a large lead and never look back to claim his first win of the young season.Cecil Piche would retire pitside with more mechanical woes due to a hard impact durring the race that knocked the kill switch loose causing the car to sputter pretty badly.
Feature finish: Paul Fox, McClain, Jackson, Young, Baudoin, Mike Fox, Chris Miller, Maitland, Randy Miller, and Piche.
Bill Cryderman would wow the fans with a spectacular burnout and victory doughnut after claiming the win. The event would nearly go caution free except for a stopped car of Don Etcher in turn 4 with about 5 laps to go. Etcher would need the hook to get off the track as the right front wheel was folded under his mount. Fans would get a funny show watching the tow truck trying to pull the car back to the pits on the horse track, as it almost needed some help to get back pitside!
Feature finish: Cryderman, Clausen, Golladay Sr., Clancy, Golladay Jr, Petero, Etcher and Pieri (DQ'd for smoking)
Don Dangler would be in the right place at the right time, as he would lead the closing laps of the feature giving him his first win of the 2009 season. Tons of paint traded in this race, as Marcoux, Etcher and Hunt would all be part of the spinner spinee rule. Tempers would flare after the features, but no one was hurt and all disputes were settled in a manner suitable to all parties. Race rookie Koltyn Hubble would have a great finish in the 3rd spot as he was fast right out of the box in only his 2nd start ever in a stock car.
Feature finish: Don Dangler, Hunt, Hubble, Young, Marcoux, Etcher, Autore and Norman. Petrangelo and Isrow would not start the feature.
Join us Friday night June 5, 2009 as it will be Kinross Community Day and Fan Appriciation Night at the track featuring a complete 5-in-1 show of late models, modifieds, factory stocks, pure stocks and 4 cylinders.
