Kinross Speedpark hosted its “Christmas in July” with a children's bike giveaway sponsored by Little Caesars on Friday night. A huge crowd turned out for a full night of scheduled races. Make up races from the last show started the nights events. Fans were treated to around three hundred laps of racing.
The 4 Cylinder class had some great racing all night long. Ron Etcher worked the high line to take the lead and the win in the first heat race. The first feature of the evening in this class had a wild start. The field raced clean with BJ Marcoux running up front. Don Dangler raced through the pack and made his way to the lead. He survived a great challenge from James Thompson to take the victory in a photo finish.
4CYL July 24th Feature Winner - #15 Don Dangler Jr.
Dangler earned another win when he bested everyone in the 4 Cylinder Dash. Chelsea Pace took over the lead in the Australian Pursuit when leader Ashley Pietrangelo was black flagged for breaking the ¼ second rule. Pace stayed up front the rest of the way and took the checkered. Don Dangler won again with a win in the second heat race. The field was close all race with lots of great racing action. The final 4 Cylinder Feature saw Dangler go from near the back of the pack to the lead on the first lap. He led for several laps before Etcher closed in and made a move to the front. Etcher drove inside of Dangler to take the lead and the win.
4CYL July 31st Feature Winner - #8 Ron Etcher
John Clancy scored a victory with a nice run in the Pure Stock Australian Pursuit. Clancy led again early in the Pure Stock first feature race. John Clawson motored his way by everyone and eventually took over first place. He survived several cautions and restarts to stay out front for the victory.
PS July 24th Feature Winner - ##26 John Clawson
Bill Cryderman won by a nose in another very close race in the Pure Stock Dash. Ray Golladay Sr. used all of the racing surface and a couple feet of dirt along the outside of the track to stay out front in the Australian Pursuit. He passed the only car in front of him to take the win. There was heavy traffic in the second Pure Stock heat for most of the race. John Clawson and Brad Leach got to the front a put on a great battle. Clawson took the win by ½ a car length over Leach.
The final Pure Stock feature had some more tight racing with Leach again running out front. John Clawson closed in on Leach and got alongside him running door to door for many laps. Leach got loose in turn four late in the race losing just enough momentum for Clawson to get cleanly out front. Once out front, Clawson pulled away and took another checkered.
PS July 31st Feature Winner - #26 John Clawson
Dean Eggart and Todd Jackson battled hard at the front in the first Factory Stock heat race. Jackson eventually got out front and took the win. Jackson and Cecil Piche ran a similar race in the first Factory Stock feature. Piche was all over Jackson for many laps and got alongside him coming to the checkered. Jackson was able to hold on for the win at the line by ½ a car length.
FS July 24th Feature Winner - #51 Todd Jackson
In yet another close race, the Factory Stock Dash was unbelievably tight. Jackson won again by the slimmest of margins. The second Factory Stock Feature of the night saw the field stacked up at the start. Jackson worked his way to the lead with Piche a close second. These two cars pulled away from the field running side by side lap after lap. Piche got the lead all to himself on the last lap going down the backstretch. With the top two looking for the checkered, Randy Miller had a catastrophic failure in turn four breaking something in the rear end launching a tire and crashing violently in front of the leaders. Piche snuck by as Jackson became collected in the carnage. Piche took the victory in a very exciting race.
FS July 31st Feature Winner - #88 Cecil Piche
The Late Model class had more excitement than usual with lots of cautions. Bud Gray III and Jerry Artuso ran up front with Artuso working his way to the lead. George Wilson moved into second and ran down and caught the Artuso car. Wilson ducked inside of Artuso going into turn one clipping the rear of Artuso causing him to spin. Artuso regained his spot with Wilson sent to the back. Artuso led the rest of the way and took the victory.
LM July 24th Feature Winner - #5 Jerry Artuso
Josh Ware got the lead early in the Late Model Dash and stayed out front and took the win. The next Late Model heat had an early caution when Wilson and Artuso got together again on the front stretch. Artuso spun going into turn one with Wilson moving to the rear of the field on the restart. The second caution of the race occurred when Rick Leonard appeared to cross in front of Wilson on the backstretch. Wilson checked up but wasn't able to stay off Leonard sending him spinning off the track. Shortly after the restart, Artuso and Wilson came together on the front stretch collecting both cars in another spin. Track officials sent both Wilson and Artuso pit side, to sit out the rest of the heat race. When the race resumed, Josh Ware was in front and led the rest of the way.
Jerry Artuso did not return for the feature, leaving four cars to start the race. The field put on a great show with the top three running nose to tail. Ware, Wilson, and Gray ran close and clean with none of them able to change positions. The cars were evenly matched and put on a nice race. Josh Ware stayed out front and took the victory.
LM July 31st Feature Winner - #7 Josh Ware
