Rail Rokos and Tuberous Sclerosis

Talk about humanitarian of the year!!    Tackling TS”, a Tuberous Sclerosis fundraiser was one of the focal points of fans entering Merritt Speedway, along with all of the other sights, sounds and smells of a Saturday night race track ready to put on a show. Ump Late Model driver Rail Rokos is ultimately the hero for tonight, Saturday June 6, 2009.

Last year Rokos organized a fund raiser for Tuberous Sclerosis at Cherry Speedway for Cheyenne Gibson’s family which was able to help her seek the costly experimental treatment that she needed.    With that treatment, Cheyenne can now enjoy racing more than before. Tuberous Sclerosis is a genetic disorder that has no known cure.

This year Rick Ancel approached Rokos about hosting an event at Merritt Speedway.  Together with the support of the community and sponsors, KLT and Miller, this event became possible. Merritt Speedway’s pavilion walls and tables were adorned with donations from drivers, sponsors and others for a silent auction to generate funds to help find a cure for this disease which affect 1 in 6000 births.

Rail Rokos has been racing for sometime.  He won the championship at Cherry Speedway last year and is a top contender this year for Merritt Speedway this year.  He loves racing and can’t wait for the season to get under way and race head to head with Frank Seder and Don Marcoullier.

Rail finished second in his heat and was looking forward to starting 5th in the feature and breezing his way to the front.  Rokos, also known as ‘BREEEZER’, commented, “The track is good tonight it’s going to be pretty fast!”

Unfortunately because of the rain, we were unable to see Breezer compete in the feature.  The feature will be made up later this season, TBA.

Thanks to KLT, Miller, and Rokos Construction, Rokos Racing and the Ancel’s, Rod, Johnna and Rick, for their hard work putting this event together.  Also a special thanks to the fans and businesses who donated items for the silent auction.  For more information about TS and to make a donation, you can visit www.tacklingts.org.

The next race at Merritt Speedway is Wednesday, June 10th for The Who 55 and Saturday, June 13th for the USA Autocross Derby.  For information about the derby you can visit www.usademoderby.com and www.merritt-speedway.com
