Rain, rain, go away, and come again another non-Saturday!! What looked to be a promising night making laps in the dirt, turned out to be another rainy mud pie. Throughout the evening there were light sprinkles until the races were called off due to a shower at about 9:30 pm.
Saturday night Merritt Speedway hosted the ‘Race to Cure Tuberous Sclerosis.’ In addition to a regular night of racing, the Merritt Team helped to raise money to fight this disease. This event was made possible by Rail Rikos Construction and Miller Lite. The evening’s agenda included a silent auction for all ages and a Miller Lite beer tent. What a hit!! The signed door panels found a new home fast.
The pre-race ceremonies included NASCAR Steve from 97.5/98.9 KLT Radio singing the National Anthem and all the fans from the stands firing up the cars as they were the Grand Marshals for the evening.
After two weeks of a rainout, the green flag finally fell! Racing began with the four car four lap UMP Late Model Dash. Josh Knoll No. 87K maintained the lead and received the win. Frank Seder No. 34 came from fourth to finish second. Dona Marcoullier No. 6M came in third and Don Marcoullier No. 6T finished fourth.
In the Modified Dash, it was Marc Kurth No. 00 who came from fourth and took the win. Dave Mairose No. 7X took second after a spin out. Steven Hilliker No. 21 fell back to third and Jeff Cade No. 7C finished fourth
The Pro Truck Dash saw Adam Brinks No. 22B with the win. Bob Hammar No. 21 finished in second ahead of Richie Sutherland No. 77 and Billy Myers No. 61.
This week 19 cars came out for the UMP Late Model class. In Heat 1, Don Marcoullier No. 6T impressively came from fifth and took the win. David Hilliker No. 21DH finished second and Donald Erickson No. 104 was third.
In Heat 2 Rich Neiser took the win with Rail Rokos taking second. Dona Marcoullier No. 6M came from dead last to nab third.
Heat 3 was equally exciting with the big W going to Frank Seder No. 34. Josh Knoll No. 87K and Chris Brindley No. 25 came from the rear to take second and third, respectively.
The Sportsman class was able to complete their heats before the rain came. There were 16 cars for this division. The first heat was won by Dan Hersey No. 29, who moved up one spot. Second was Chris Brinks No. 318 and third was taken by Terry Humphreys No. 56.
Heat 2 goes to Kevin Crawford, Jr. No. 06 with second place to Tom Zundel 4Z. Kevin and Tom also started one and two. Third place goes to Jordan Erickson No. 027 who moved up a spot.
The UMP Modified Class was only able to complete one heat before the heavier rain came. The winner was Marc Kurth, Jeff Cade fell back a spot to grab second, and Dave Mairose came from fifth to hold onto third.
A little sprinkle doesn’t hurt, but rain sure STOPS the show. “Once it’s gone, it’s gone,” Deb, the Pit Steward said once the rain came. Show your pit pass from the rain out and receive $3.00 off Wednesday’s Event: The Who 55. The features from tonight will be made up throughout the season with double features.
On Wednesday, June 10th Merritt Speedway will be hosting The Who 55. This race is a 55 lap green flag feature. Drivers meeting at 5pm and hot laps begin at 5:30pm.
