Merritt Speedway to Host Tuberous Sclerosis Charity Race Night
On June 6th Merritt Speedway in Merritt, Michigan will be “Tackling TS” with a Tuberous Sclerosis fundraiser.
This warm-up to the June 10th “Who 55” will play host to Super Late Models, Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Sportsman & Factory Stocks. But in addition to a regular show, the Merritt team will be raising funds to fight a disease that affects at least 1 in every 6,000 live births.
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. The symptoms of TS can range from very mild to severe, and at present there is no known cure. Expensive experimental treatments are currently the only means of managing this life-altering condition. By “Tackling TS” the crew at Merritt and the TS organization hope to raise funds to assist families on a local level with medical expenses associated with the treatment of Tuberous Sclerosis.
Sponsored by Rail Rokos Construction and Miller Lite this event will include a silent auction for adults as well as an auction tent for children to specifically get into the action. Miller Lite will also be providing a beer tent open until 2am with all proceeds going to “Tackling TS”, and of course the drivers will be in the stands greeting fans and taking up a collection.
The first annual “Tackling TS” race event in 2008 raised an incredible $9,000 and with Merritt Speedway coming on board for 2009 the organization hopes to raise even more to fight this disease.
Dirt late model fan, 12-year-old Cheyenne Gibson of Buckley, Michigan was the individual responsible for introducing TS to the racing community, and after last year’s fund-raiser her family was able to seek experimental treatment in Cleveland which has eased Cheyenne’s symptoms and made it possible for her to enjoy the sport she loves. Cheyenne and the rest of the “Tackling TS” organization are exited for this June 6th event and Merritt Speedway’s participation.
In 2009 Rod Ancel and the Merritt Crew added a new VIP Skybox and for this special night, individuals donating $1000 or more will get to enjoy the night’s events from this new vantage-point.
Located just between Houghton Lake & Lake City on M-55, Merritt is the perfect up-north family getaway spot and for those living in northern and central Michigan; an easy drive for exciting racing action.
Be sure to come out and participate in this great event for a great cause.
If you would like to make product donations for the Silent Auction, anything from new products, to door skins would be greatly appreciated. If interested please contact Merritt Speedway at (231) 328-4351 or Jackie Miron & Rail Rokos at 231-632-0445.
