Thomas Fisher starting riding dirt bikes at a very young age of 4 years old. His proud father (Dave), wanted to get him started early, and he has been running competively every since. Making the switch to stock-car racing has proved to be a challenge.
"Our worst moment would have to be my first ever Pure Stock race. Two laps in and the motor blew", said Fisher. "Then last season at Kalalmazoo Speedway first lap of qualifying, I backed the car into the wall coming out of turn four."
The switch does take some time. "Two guys who have made the switch, Ricky Carmichael and Clint Bowyer. "Look where they are now," said Fisher. Fisher says he runs the No. 48 because of his favorite NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson.
Fisher is currently working for his fathers Construction Company while going to school to become a commercial airline pilot. He has a full schedule of flying in the morning, racing at night and working in construction in between. Fisher stays busy in the race season. In his spare time, if he has any, Fisher likes to ride his dirt bike. "I still love to ride." said Fisher. He also plans to compete in the arena cross world finals at Las Vegas in October.
With all this racing going on Fisher knows he owes alot to his father. "My dad makes it all possible, he's the one who pays for it all." says Fisher. "I look up to my dad, and Jeff Ganus." he added.
"Jeff Ganus, the No. 5 Late Moel driver has helped out alot" said Fisher. Car owner, Steve Brown also helped out Fisher, giving him a fire suit for he 2009 season. "They've all stepped up and helped us this year." said Fisher.
Fisher plans to run the full season at M-40 Speedway. He plans on running the Super Shoe at seasons end and any other Pro-stock shows with big payoffs.
"I like to go fast, like Ricky Bobby" said Fisher jokingly. "I just love the sport".
Fisher says he likes the M-40 Speedway, "Its a fast track, and its close to home."
When asked about advice for up and comming drivers Thomas said, "Just hold your line, and drive your race."
"Thomas is getting better week by week." says Dave, Thomas's father.
Thomas has alot of help with his car. He would like to thank Jason Mullins, Jeff Ganus, Steve Brown, Todd Wilcox, Big Chris Rhodes and last but not least his father.
