After Mother Nature caused an unscheduled week off, the drivers and fans came out of the woodwork to get back to the racing action at the M40 Speedway.  Mid-Season Championship Night would prove to be a great night of racing action as the points race is gearing up for the race to the end.

The Late Model division had Eric McGlohthlen No. 68 proving to be the driver to beat as he went out and stole the show.  McGlohthlen made his way to the front and never looked back as he went on to win his first feature of the season.  Lee Slaton No. 55 held on for second, beating out Roger Northrup.  Rick Boal No. 22B held off Mike Walls for fourth.

" The car was really good, it started coming around.  I'm looking forward to some of the big shows coming up ", said McGlohthlen.  " We changed the whole set-up, every spring, every shock.  We tried new stuff, dad (AL) explained we needed to start over, so we went with his old set-up ", he added.

Eric also wanted to thank his sponsors  County Line Storage, Classic Trailer, Dick's Auto Parts, Happy Landing Cafe, and Al's Competition Engines for their support.

Jeff Holden No. 51 got his second heat win of the season in the A heat, while Mike Walls No. 36 got his first victory of the season in the B heat.

The Pro-Stocks had an old face in a new place as Bill Hartman, normaly pilot of the No. 2 Pro-Stock, left his at home an drove the No. 61V  Vochaska owned ride to victory in heat B.

Nick Pressler picked up his second win of the season in the A heat, beating out Rodney Smith for the victory.

In the Pro-Stock feature, Thomas Fisher looked to be the car to beat, as no one could get around the much improving driver.  Mickey Cornwell would spoil the party for Fisher, with about thirteen laps to go.  Cornwell put it in another speed to take the lead and never look back.  Fisher would hang on to second place, holding off Rodney Smith.  John Ferrier would hold off Fred Reed for the fourth place finish.

" It seemed like alot of the cars fell off the pace ... I was just being patient behind Ferrier and Smith ", said Cornwell.   " I tried to pass on the outside, the car liked the outside tonight ".

Cornwell expressed thanks to his wife ( Ruth ), daughter ( Holly ), Jim, Eric, and Ray.  He also thanked Dick's Auto Parts.

Every once in a while, an underdog story comes along that has you getting up out of your seat cheering them to victory, this was the case Friday night at the M40 Speedway in the Pure Stocks division.  Tyler Hufford put on a great racing performance in the feature as he took on all charging drivers.  Hufford made his way to the front and hung on to the lead right to the end, with a hard charging Tim Thurston back at his bumper.  The race was right down to the last lap as a lapped car almost kept the young Hufford from pulling out his biggest victory to date.  Under the nail biting nervousness, Tyler Hufford did cross the line first, and the fans erupted.

" Thurstons really good, I was worried at the end with the lap traffic.  I didnt know what he ( Tyler ) was going to do ", said Dale, Tyler Hufford's father .

" It was really nerve racking at the end ... I didn't know whether to go high or low on the lap traffic, I just didn't want to wreck ", said Tyler.  He went on to say, " The car was great at the beginning of he race.  Midway through, I started to get loose ... in the end, it was still pretty good.  Its pretty exciting, I hope I can take it into next week.  We're  happy where we're sitting in he points right now ".

Tyler thanked everyone for their help and support.  He sent out a special thanks to his mom, dad, brother, sister, Larry Gill, and Bill Zwart.  He also thanked his sponsors Ams Oil, Michigan Exhaust and R&N Sport Truck.

Travis Rozner No. 22 fought his way through the pack to get his first victory of the season in heat B.  Heat A went to veteran driver Burney Arnett, who made a last lap pass on race leader Chad Wilkins.  The win was Arnett's second heat of the season and fourth win overall .

Dustin Kline drove away from the Mini-Stock pack to get his first heat win of the '09 season at M40.  In the feature however, no one had an answer for the speedy Jeremy Damron, who went on to win his second straight feature unchallenged.  Corky Knight No. 9 finished second.

" I enjoy getting a chance to run, I've been building chassis's for thirteen years, so I think I got it down pretty well ", said Damron.  He informed that the car was leading in points at Plymouth Speedway with driver Mike Mast.  Damron went on to thank his sponsors  Goshen Collision Center and Victory by Design Chassis.

The M40 Speedway had put on another great show and at the Mid-way point of the season the track is being reastablished as one of the best tracks in the Michigan racing scene.

This week is Independence Day racing on July 3rd, Late Models, Pro-Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Mini's.

July 10th will be a regular 4-in-1 show of the Late Models, Pro-Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Mini's.

On July 17th, the Late Model Challenge Series returns to the M40 Speedway, along with the Pro-Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Mini's.  Dont miss an oppurtunity to see some of the best racing action in Michigan.  Come out every Friday night, and join the M40 Speedway family.
