Hahn goes Solo, as Highbaugh is High Rolling. M40 Recap 7/31/09

The weather was beautiful Friday night at the M40 Speedway, bringing out fans as well as cars for a night of great racing action.  The visiting Dwarf cars would also add impact to the racing action on hand.

The Late Models went off without a hitch with a 2009 first time feature winner scoring the checker.  Rick Hahn Sr. took his No. 22 Late Model machine to the front, and never looked back.  Hahn would lead the rest of the field through the checkered with Ron Coburn fighting him every step of the way.  Coburn would have to settle for second place as he could not find an answer for the Hahn driven machine.  The win was the biggest of the season for Hahn, who now has a feature win to go with his two heat wins this season.  Ronnie Maynard Jr. held on for third over Eric McGlohthlen, while Shawn Amore rounded out the top five.

" The car was excellent, I felt someone back there, so I just stood on it a little more ", said a very jubilant Rick Hahn, after the race.  " We have a new set-up on the car this year, it took a while to figure it out.  We just never gave up on it ", added Hahn.  During the post-race inspection, Rick thanked his son Rick Jr, wife  Kim, Gary Wyrick Sr. and Gary Wyrick Jr. for all their hard work.  He also wanted to thank his sponsors Bankruptcy Attorney at Law Patrick M. Seese, Signs Etc., Pro X Trailers, and Community Vault for their support.

Hahn was also the heat 1 winner.

The heat 2 victory went to Jeff Ganus, giving him his first heat win of the season, 8th win overall.

In their first visit to the track this season, the Dwarf cars looked very impressive.  Craig Curtis, who had the points lead coming into the feature race of the night, would have to watch that points lead fade from the sidelines. He had been running second for most of the race, only to have the motor blow with just five laps left in the feature.  This gave Eric Hoffman a perfect opportunity to not only take the points lead, but also drive away unchallenged with the feature .  Landon Hidy, in just his fifth start in a Dwarf car and first time ever at the M40 Speedway, finished a strong second place holding off John Wylie.  Mike McManman Jr. held off Steven Bobek for the fourth place finish.

" The car was pretty good, just a tic tight, had a good run tonight, just a bit off of the track record ", said Hoffman, after the race.  " This was the first time the car has been here at this track ", he added.

" This was a new motor we just got in the car, its been a good year up until now " ,said a dejected Craig Curtis ( Curtis has won four of the seven features, and held six of the seven fast qualifier spots ).

Eric Hoffman went on to thank John Wylie ( car owner ), Tim Hoffman, Tim Sweeney, Troy Hoffman, Angie ( wife ), mom and dad, and the lord almighty for keeping everyone safe.

In the Pure Stock division, Josh Highbaugh got on a winning streak, winning his fourth race of the season, in as many weeks.  Highbaugh made his way to the front of the Pure Stock field, and held off some off the top drivers in the division, on his way to his second feature win of the season, and fourth win overall.  Second place went to points leader Tony Stewart, followed by a hard charging Tim Thurston ( leads all Pure Stock drivers in wins this season, with eight ).  Chad Wilkins held off Bob Metheny for the fourth place finish.

" I was low on fuel at the end,and the ca got real loose.  This one was earned, I'm a lot more tired after this one ", said Highbaugh, in the post-race inspection.  " I could hear someone behind me, I figured they might get to the door, but knew they wouldn't get me if I just ran my line ", he added.

Josh wanted to thank his dad ( Tuck ) for all the financial help with the car, right down to the nuts and bolts.  He also thanked his sponsors ( Snip Doggie Dog, Sign Works, Lily Jean's Drive-In, Purgatory Towing and Salvage, Russell Automotive Inc., Sauk Trail, and Jennifer Hamilton Photography.Net ) for their support.

Cody Dale won heat one for his fourth win of the season, while in heat two, Rick Reed got his third heat win of the season.

The Pro-Stock division had Fred Reed, a week removed from his first feature win of the season, back in the winner circle, winning his seventh heat race of the season, and ninth win overall.  In heat two, Gary Wyrick got his third heat win of the season, fifth win overall.

In the Pro-Stock feature, Rodney Smith finally got a long awaited checker, as he drove through the field, and away from the pack to get it.  Mickey Cornwell drove home in second, followed by last weeks winner, Fred Reed.  Steve Smith Sr. finished fourth, while Thomas Fisher rounded out the top five.

" The car started loosening up at the end, but it was still good the whole time.  We've made minor adjustments, and the car is coming in the way we want it ", said Rodney Smith, after the race.

Smith thanked Farmer Joe for his support, as well as his sponsors ( Heaven Sent Day Care, Team Spirit Custom Trailers, Rheda Motors, and Jennifer Hamilton Photography.Net ) for their support.
