Those who think monster trucks are just for men have never seen Jocelyn Perrin. Jocelyn is a crowd favorite in her “High Maintenance” monster truck. When asked what got her started, “Just a big fan, went to a show as a fan and met a gentlemen there who was will to show me the ropes. He married me and eventually built me a truck and that was 19 years ago.” Where do you do most of your racing? “We travel all over doing about thirty-five to forty events. We try to stay close to home now that we have our girls in school. For the most part we travel to where people want to see us. We did a show last night in Minneapolis Minnesota and drove ten hours last night to be here in Kalamazoo.” Jocelyn is a Coopersville native with her husband Jeff and two daughters.
Jocelyn’s husband Jeff started her in trucks since he used to race himself, “My brother and I ran mud, and we came across a deal on some sixty-six inch tires and said lets build a monster truck. That was in nineteen eighty-six so monster trucks were still new. Nothing like what they are now.” What got you out of the truck and Jocelyn in it? “She wanted to drive, we let her drive and the crowd loved it. I would go out on the track and break stuff, she would go out there and do a decent job, nothing spectacular but the crowd absolutely loves her. I was just another guy in a truck, there is a lot of guys in trucks, but there wasn’t a lot of girls.” Jocelyn says that she is out to give the crowd a good show every time she is out. “I don’t want the crowd to think they just saw a girl driving the truck I want exceed those expectations of being a girl.” Jocelyn is a part of the Monster Nationals and is the 2008 and 2009 Monster Nationals freestyle champion.
Jocelyn will be at “Monster Truck Mania” at Kalamazoo Speedway on July 25th with seven other trucks. Her yellow to orange truck is sponsored by many local businesses including: The Screen Print Dept., More Power Performance Engines, BCTS Bob Curtiss Transportation Specialist, Pro-Line Trailer Sales, Hanson Collision Inc., DJ’s Truck Detailing, RBK Fasteners, AB Spring Services Inc., West Michigan Transmissions Inc., Havit Supplies, Raap Signs, Meekhof Tire, Imagine That Graphics, AAA Sling, Amsoil, Michfab Machinery, Auto Master’s Incorporated, WIX Filters, b&k graphics inc., and Weller Auto/Truck.
