Two drivers came to Kalamazoo Speedway looking to compete in all ten feature races on Saturday;s double feature night. Robbie Ferrier and Andy Bozell set out to make history. No one has ever done this before because it was a first time for the speedway to hold such an event. Andy Bozell walked away from the night with a surprising win the first Sportsman feature and then again in the first Late model feature.
Andy was unable to stop for pictures after his wins because he had to park his car and jump into the next ride for the night. I caught up with Andy after the night was over to find out more from his point of view. How long have you been in a car tonight? “Well, about three o’ clock that’s when hot laps started.” The total amount of racing laps for the night was 250. “We finished on the lead lap in every race.” Add the hot laps, 2 laps of qualifying per series, caution laps, and racing laps; Andy was more than likely in the car for 350 laps. Why did you decide to take on the challenge? “We looked at the schedule and the idea came up and started kicking it around and I guess I was the one dumb enough to try it.” When asked if he would do it again, Terry replied, “Yeah, I’d do it again, if I get a chance before I get any older.” Andy almost had a setback when failure of the starter in his Pure Stock car put his attempt at ten in jeopardy. Fellow driver Steve Brown No. 5 stepped aside and gave Andy his ride the second Pure Stock feature.
With his first meal in had after 9 hours in the car, Andy was just trying to take it easy. It took a lot of people to put together Andy’s performance for the night. “We had a group of about twenty five guys helping us out and if it weren’t for them this couldn’t have happened.” Andy was grateful to all that provided assistance to make this historic night happen. Along with friends, family, and crew; Andy is supporteds by his sponsors. They are: Hardings Friendly Markets, Kalsee Credit Union, Amsoil by Lynn Peterson, Kelly Radiator, Sweet Manufaturing, Awesome Racewear, R&N Sport truck, Edwards Industrial, Fastenal, Spartan Stores, Stafford Smith Inc., AT Performance Products, Coca Cola, Bullet Driveline & Suspension, Bullet Speed Graphics, Don Sappanos Attorney at Law.
