VanAvery triples on the season - Galesburg recap 8/8/09

Galesburg Speedway was packed tight for another night of points racing.  Autograph night was in full effect and drivers were excited about the up-coming racing action.  With plenty of cars on hand to do battle, the fans would be treated to some great racing.

The Late Models, coming into the nights events, had Scott Rugg leading the points over Luke Krick by four.  Rugg would get the upper hand early, beating out Krick for fast qualifier.  Neither would have an answer for the third place points runner, Jesse VanAvery.  VanAvery, fresh off his first two Late Model feature wins ever, continued his winning ways, taking the checker in the dash race.  For the last two weeks, Jesse VanAvery has been the man to beat, Saturday would be no different.  Jesse VanAvery went on to win his third consecutive Late Model feature race, with his second one-two finish, as brother ( Adam ) took home a second place finish.  Krick would regain the points lead with a third place finish, holding off Donnie Ritter.  Rugg would have to settle for a top five finish on the night.

VanAvery has caught fire of late, winning three features, a dash, and a heat, in the past four nights of racing.

In the lone Late Model heat race, Donnie Ritter pulled out the victory for his third win of the season.

In the Sportsman division, Adam Drobny, one week removed from his first ever A feature win, would once again find his way to the winners circle.  Drobny took home his fourth dash win of the season, and fifth win overall.

It would be a different outcome in the feature, as Jeff Vochaska would spoil the plans of all the regulars.  Vochaska, fresh off his heat win earlier in the night, made his way to the front, and never looked back.  Vochaska became just the seventh different feature winner on the season, holding off Chris Garrett for the win.  Adam Drobny finished third, ahead of teammate Matt Frazier.  Rick McMullen rounded out the top five, in a division of tough competition.

Matt Frazier continues to lead the points battle in the Sportsman division, as the season begins to come to an end.

The Street Stock division had more domination by the No.11 Foote machine, as John Foote Jr. took home another decisive feature win, his eighth of the season.  Donnie Ritter finished runner-up to Foote.  Bryon Noble had another strong third place finish, holding off a vastly improving Tim Hegner.  Robert Kerber finished in the fifth place position.

Foote leads all drivers, with his thirteen overall wins on the season.

Donnie Ritter got his third dash win of the season, while Travis Loop got his second heat win of '09.  Tony Noble got his first victory of the season, winning heat two.

Jeremy Collins bounced back in great fashion.  A week after blowing up in the Mini-Stock feature,  Collins not only set fast time, but went on to win the dash race and dominate the feature race as well, wining his sixth feature of the season.  Jeff Presock held on to second, beating out Garry Janow II.  Ken Taylor finished ahead of Mike Govier for the fourth place spot.

Collins has twelve wins overall on the season.

Although the rain washed out Sunday's event, Johnny Hyder was still able to set a new track record in the Burg Stock division.  Hyder beat his old record ( 18.038 set 7/4/09 ) with a time of 17.653.  Congratulations John!

This week is the Sportsman Spectacular, as the Sportsman drivers have their 50 lap feature.  Its also Powerball Night, with the full 5-in-1 show.

Sunday is the make-up School Bus Figure Eight races.

August 22nd is a regular 5-in-1 show, just one week from the Season championships.

August 29th is Season Championships for all divisions.  This is the final night of the 2009 Galesburg Speedway Points Challenge.

The action is heating up as the season wiinds down.  Dont miss any of the racing action.  See your faces at the races!
