I started off by getting married in 1973 to my wife (Caroline) and we would go and watch the Sprints and also would go to Main Events (ex: Dealer Choice and Kalamazoo). Finally, in the late 80’s (1985) we took up partnership with my brother (Steve) in which I was his crew chief and he was the driver.![]()
Once we did the ownership thing I started to accompany Ron Heeney with his Sportsman and became his crew chief. We ran at Spartan Speedway with the Sportsman in the early 90’s and then Ron went into the Limited Late Model class at Springport. Once we did that for a couple of years Ron went back to doing the Sportsman class and asked if I wanted to run his car on Saturday’s out at Springport. So, he ran the sportsman at Spartan on Friday nights and I ran at Springport on Saturday nights and ended up in 3rd place in points. I had some checkered races and the trophies are down in my basement.
In the early 2000’s I finally went to Spartan and asked if they needed an assistant flagman and have helped them ever since. However, during 2005 I did flag for Owosso Speedway until Jim purchased Springport and I then began flagging there.
At the present time we have our youngest daughter Misty racing in the Pony/Mini Stock class where she races at Spartan on Friday nights and I her and Scott (Fiancée) at Springport when I’m not flagging for the SuperPro.
I have always been into racing one way or another since 1973 and still love the sport. I still enjoy the opportunity to get behind the drivers seat and race with a pack of cars. Also, the last time that I raced was around 2000.
