The “Holman-inator” stalks Thunderbird

If it has 4 tires, a motor, and can be found at one of our local dirt tracks,  odds are Jeremy Holman has raced it and won with it.

Going into his 8th year of dirt track racing, Holman racing is campaigning at Sportsman, a Modified and a Factory Stock.

We talked to Jeremy to find out what drives him to be the dominating presence he is at the track.

“My father (Joe) was a racer years and years ago. He raced at Thunderbird, he never did real good, but he loved racing so In 2001 my Dad helped me build my first car,” said Holman, recalling how he first got started in racing.  “It was an 85 Cutlass that we ran in the Street Stock Division at Thunderbird.  We did so-so, Not the greatest, but not real bad.  We didn’t win any races that first year, but we learned a lot about driving and getting the car set up and getting seat time.”

As is often the case in racing, just as things were starting to go good, something bad happen.  “With about 4 nights to go in the season, the car got totalled out.  I was making a pass for the lead, the first lead of the season, and I got spun out and run over and there wasn’t anything left by the time we got done being run into.”

Team Holman came back in 2002 with a car they were racing for Terry Woodard,  2002 went much better for Jeremy, as they picked up their first heat win, their first A-Main start and eventually their first Feature win.

“We’ve won in every division we’ve raced in, we’ve won at T-Bird, Winston, and MMRP.  We did good at Crystal, but didn’t get the  win.” said Holman recalling their successes in racing.  “In 2008, we drove a brand new Sportsman car, won a few feature races with it and finished 7th in the points.”

We asked Jeremy what he remembered about his very first race.  “I got lapped twice, still finished 3rd in the race.  It was one of only two races that I have ever been lapped in. I didn’t really know what it (racing) was about, so I wasn’t scared, what I remember most is I didn’t win which I told everyone I was going to.”

Holman did eventually get that win.  It was the following season and it was racing against one of his better buddies (Barry Meddenforf) “he still is one of my best friends and I remind him all the time that I got my first win against him.” said a smiling Holman.

In 2009 they decided to run for a track championship.  “We hadn’t dedicated season for running for points, and so that become 2009 goal.

We have an awesome collection of sponsors who made it possible for us to attempt our Championship run.  Dale  Sprik and Associates, Four Season’s Buffalo Ranch, Artistic Exteriors, Mike Thompson Home Improvement,  Johnny Rocket Fabrication, Red Line Graphics, Pat Krehn, Grabe Well Drilling, and Joe & Jen.

I have a good crew. My brother Joe and friend BJ Keur and Mike Epplett, Dan Vanderslute help me with the car.  We all pitch in and work together, no one has one specific job, we just chip in and get it done.”
Jeremy’s impressions of Thunderbird, were the track is in excellent condition.  The track has become very smooth and very fast.   They (Thunderbird’s Management) keep most of the same crew, but things are better organized so the races get started quicker and the show moves along better.

“I’m a happy go lucky person, we are having fun and we are winning.  That’s what it’s all about”

You can find the Holminator on Saturday Nights stalking the competition at the Muskegon 3/8th mile dirt track and we invite you stop in and check it out.  Its something your probably not going to  forget soon.
