Dennison Finds First Feature Win

Patrick Dennson caught my eye on test and tune in April of 2008.  As I walked through the pits, I saw this stunning red, white and blue Dodge Shadow that just looked spectacular.  I went over and talked to him and I was impressed how serious and down to earth this guy was.  I knew right then this guy was going to be a feature winner.

Fast forward to Friday Evening and we are standing in the pit of the #38 Dodge Neon of Dennison and he is celebrating his first feature win at Spartan Speedway.
After some of the crowd had cleared we had some time to talk about how Patrick got started in racing and what drives him to be the racer he is.

“My boss and I had been kicking around the idea for awhile.  Once Wayne (Beckner) and Rich (Robert) and Jim (Harbinski) started racing it got a lot more serious.”
Patrick works at Paramount Coffee, which might be the secret to Spartan Speedway Pony success as four Spartan Speedway drivers are employed there.
“I knew I wanted to do it, but the cost always scared me off, but with the Pony Stock class, I decided I could afford that.”

Patrick’s children Angela and Zachary were racing motorcross the last couple of years, and Patrick took the same serious approach to their racing that he did to his.  “We raced for three years and at the end of year three we got Zachary to the District 14 State Championship in 2006.  He was only eight years old.  We raced all around the state and  kids decided they didn’t want to do it anymore.  That it gave me an opportunity to race myself.”

Dennison said “We purchased Jim Misner’s old Shadow and got it all fixed back up and looking good an that is what we drove in 2008.  It was a good first year car, it was reliable and fast.. but it wasn’t a front runner, you have to have a Neon to win.  So last winter we bought a Neon and stripped it down and put it into race trim.  We did the whole thing all ourselves.”

The last couple of weeks The No. 38 of Dennison has been running really good, he had lead several races and finished with two 2nds, a 3rd and a 4th over the last four weeks.
“Last couple of weeks I”ve had the lead and they’ve caught me and got around me..  so I was waiting for them to get me and then with five laps to go, Brian and I got together which meant there was going to a re-start  with all them right behind me.  I  knew Todd was right behind me and I knew what he’d try to do so I moved to the line which I thought would work best to find him off and it worked.

I felt real bad for Brian, he’s a good guys and they’ve helped me a lot and I felt bad for him..  I hope he’s not still mad, I guess we’ll find out on Friday Night.

The people who make it possible for me to go racing are the folks at Hitches and More; Door Service, Right Touch Carpet Cleaning, C&C Body Shop, Lentz Service Centers, Benjamin and Son A&1 Towing, Signs by Design, Mason Flooring, Lake Side Charter.

I also want to thank My wife; Rhonda and my kids, they have to put up with me every week, and all the race fans of course.
