A cold and blustery night in Mid-Michigan forced cancellations at many facilities, but at Crystal Motor Speedway, promoter Ron Flinn asked everyone to bundle up warm because they were going racing.
In the first feature of the night, Pro Truck driver Scott Nieman, from Ithaca, MI, won the first feature race of the 2010 season. Nieman wheeling his No. 72, held off the charging No. 14 of Chris Verhaar from Six Lakes, MI for the victory. Aaron Raby, Ashlee Scott and Tim Wood rounded out the Top Five.
It was a great first feature... and with over 100 cars in the pits, and a loyal audience in the stands, the Late Models were up next.
In the Late Model feature, it was apparent that the team of Scott Baker had found something, as he set sail on the drop of the green flag and was gone. Baker, from Ionia, Mi driving his No. 13 lead from green to checkers and was never seriously challenged in a dominate run. Mark Anderson of Blanchard, MI finished 2nd, while Sam Epling, Brian Nickerson and Matt Pickard rounded out the Top 5.
Chaney Newland made the trip up to Crystal Motor Speedway from Granger, IN and brought some Indiana heat as the No. 54 takes the Pro Stock feature win. Newland, the 2009 Crystal Motor Speedway Pro Stock Champion had a hard fought battle with Ithaca's Rick Edmister and it was the No. 2 car taking home 2nd, followed by Larry Kosloski, Don Rohn and Mike Husted who completed the Top Five.
The IMCA Modified Feature saw a little bit of drama as several cars took turns challenging the front of the field and with one to go, it looked like Brad Roberts from Stockbridge, MI was going to take home his first Crystal Motor Speedway win of 21, but a mechanical failure on the car with one to go opened the door for the No. 65 of Melvin Allen of Elwell, MI to jump up and seize the victory. Allen was followed across the strip by Josh Borton, Roger Flinn, Jerry Hunt and Greg Wiles.
Twenty-Two Street Stocks were the second to last feature of the evening and Bobby Lynn Jr wanted no part of the back-and-forth battle seen in the Mod Feature, so he took off at the drop of the green and let the battle take place behind him. After getting away from the pack, as the laps counted down Sand Lake's Mike Vandermark Jr closed up on Lynn's No. 310 to make it a two car fight for the finish with Lynn managing to just hold on for the win. Vandermark finished 2nd, followed by Jasen Wiley, James Prochazka and Al Kiester.
Closing out the show were sixteen Flinn Stocks and it was Belding's Lee Zahm in his No. 48 car who cruised to the win. Cory Burch finished 2nd, with Charles Peterson, Zach RUmmer and Chance Allen completing the Top Five.
