Danny Jackson was victorious Saturday at Flat Rock in the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series leading all 100 laps from flag to flag. Jackson, from Loveland, Ohio, won his 2nd career truck series feature event after starting from the pole in his white No. 19 Redbank Transport Chevrolet Colorado. The win was anything but easy however as he had to contend with 2008 champion and last week's winner Paul Hahn glued to his tailgate the entire distance.
The field of 20 trucks took the green with Jackson and Hahn on the front row. Hahn was fast qualifier, but Jackson started on the pole after the inversion caused the front row to swap places. Paul Hahn had previously raced at Flat Rock as a weekly regular and was excited about returning to his roots at the familiar quarter mile. Brian Norton, current Late Model competitor and all time street stock winner at Flat Rock, started 6th in the field hoping for a good finish on his home track. The fans were buzzing concerning the mysterious identity of the driver of the black No. 13 who is known only as "The Phantom". "The Phantom", who calls Flat Rock his home town, drives a sinister looking Toyota festooned with skulls and other creepy imagery while keeping his real identity secret.
Danny Jackson jumped out to lead from the green and held it the entire way, but Hahn's silver No. 7 stayed right on his rear bumper the entire distance hoping for Jackson to make a miscue and give up the spot. Nathan Trepkowski stayed within striking distance in 3rd followed by Nick Gullatta and Brian Norton, but they were unable to match the torrid pace of Jackson and Hahn. Gullatta tried a daring move past Hahn in 4 as the two made contact, but Paul was able to retain the position. The race was very clean with just a few caution periods due to some minor spins. As might be expected, traffic was brutal on the tight quarter mile, giving Hahn hopes that he could use traffic as a pick to slip by on the outside, but Danny handled it perfectly and took the checkered flag with Paul still right in his tire tracks. Nick Gullatta finished 3rd, followed by TJ Stineman and Brian Norton.
The 26 yr. old Jackson, who is the son of former long time ASA stalwart Dave Jackson, was beaming in victory lane after driving a flawless race. "I knew I had to hold the white line - protect the bottom if I was going to hold off Paul for 100 laps," said Jackson. "And that's what we did."
"I followed Paul Hahn last week at Toledo for 84 laps and thought I had something for him then until I broke. This was the most fun I've had for years ... a long time." Danny then celebrated his win by meeting with the fans as they lined up under the grandstand to congratulate him and get an autograph.
Following the trucks, there was a 20 lap 4 cylinder race which was won by Mike Bershback in his No. 17 Dodge Shadow. Shawn Bershback in the No. 27 team car was in a torrid battle with Ray McClure the entire race for 2nd, but the two made contact the last lap with Shawn spinning. Brad Turner ended up 2nd with David Price 3rd. The last event of the day was a brutal 250 lap Enduro race which was won by Tristan Dupuis. Dupuis, who won an ASA race at Minnesota in 2000, as well as over a hundred of other races throughout Michigan in a variety of race cars, from Legends to Late Models, has made a specialty of winning the enduros at Flat Rock the last few years.
