If you ask any driver at New Paris Speedway who "Mr. Friendly" is, the response is immediate. Mini Stock Driver Kevin Grubb No. 14.
Kevin has been around racing his entire life. His dad started racing when Kevin was a small child. Those were the days when safety was not a big issue in racing. Kevin recalls an instance where they pulled the racecar to New Paris Speedway with the family car then a cousin decided to race that family car and when they confronted an official, he busted out the headlights and taillights, rolled the windows down and said go racing! At the end of the night, they had to attach flashlights to the hood of the family car to get it home. Oddly enough, Kevin's dad and the cousin drive Kevin's back up cars to this day. In 1980, when Kevin was 14, his dad hung up his helmet and the Grubb family was done with racing.
In 1993, Kevin had a sudden urge to build a racecar so he bought a 1977 Ford Granada and built his first street stock. Kevin raced New Paris, Avilla and Angola, not even caring that he didn't win a single race. After that season Kevin spent the next 4 years as crew chief for his dad.
In 1997, Kevin's brother asked him to drive his Mini Stock for him at New Paris Speedway and that is where Kevin remains to this day, at New Paris in Mini Stocks. Kevin has had a number of cars, one of the most popular being a dark green Ford Ranger in 2000. Even though its been nearly 10 years since he ran the truck, people still remember him as 'The Driver of the Truck'.
Today, Kevin is well known at New Paris for being the guy that will do anything to help anyone. Kevin heads up "Grubb Racing-Unleashed" which has become a popular race team in the Mini Stocks. While Kevin has won numerous B Features and countless heats, that A feature win still eludes him. He has come close many times but for one reason or another, didn't get to that checkered flag first! One of these days though, his day will come when he brings home that win. If you are ever at New Paris and you see that white and orange No. 14 mustang II, know that he is out there to help whoever needs it and most of all, have a good time!
Kevin would like to thank first off his wife, kids and parents. His teammates and of course his sponsors; Yellow Mind Racing, Puma and Sabre by Forest River, Harper Creations, Kropp Fire Protection, Holle's Auto Salvage, Milford Motorsports, Don Lehman, Tuffy of Elkhart, Michiana Batteries and Paradise Ice.
