HOSS roars into New Paris

It was HOSS Sprint Night at New Paris Speedway this past weekend and oh what a show it was!

The Street Stocks A Main started off our Features with Bruce Brown No. 48 starting on the inside pole and Brandon Frost No. 17 starting on the outside pole.  Al Maurer No. 1 worked his way up to the lead on lap 7 while Travis Schlabach No. 61 and Bobby Schisler No. 17 latched on to Al’s back bumped and followed him all the way to the front.  Al Maurer and Travis Schlabach gave the fans one exciting fight to the end as they drag raced down the front stretch nose to nose with Al Maurer No. 1 getting to the start/finish line first winning his 1st race in 2 years.  Schlabach finished 2nd while Bobby Schisler came in 3rd.  “The car was great,” an excited Al Maurer said after the race.  “We have been put into the wall the last 2 weeks and have had nothing but problems so we really needed this win.  I have been racing 9 years and this win has been the highlight of my career.”  Al would like to thank Dan Helms and Rodney Spencer and his sponsors; Profleet, Reids Horsepower, Troyer’s Foods, Mast Insurance and Al’s own business, Goshen Collision Center.

The Sprint Feature started off with Jerry Caryer No. 75 on the pole.  Caryer jumped out front first, led the entire race and got to the checkered flag first, followed by Jeff Bloom No. 26 and Jimmy McClume No. 88.  This was a very special win for Jerry Caryer because as he was taking the checkered flag, a valued member of his crew was in surgery getting a new long awaited kidney!
The Mini Stock Feature saw Mikie Eldridge No. 92 and Nick Huffman No. 1 as the first row of the A Feature.  Ryan Yaratch No. 92 took the lead on lap 3 while the new points leader and last weeks Feature winner Jim Anglemyer No. 6 worked his way to the lead on lap 6.  The checkered was thrown and Jim Anglemyer crossed the line first with Ryan Yaratch No. 92 behind him and Shane Eldridge No. 43 finishing 3rd.  When asked about taking over the points lead, Jim Anglemyer had this to say “Well, to be honest I try very hard to not look at the points.  I would like to thank my sponsors, Montieth Tire, Valvoline and B & M Engines.”

Next Saturday, July 18th is our Autograph Night and Old Timers night with $30 carloads.  Gates open at noon, Hot laps start at 3 with Qualifying starting at 4 and the racing action starts at 7pm.  Whether you are a driver or a fan, come experience the Hottest Quarter Mile Speedway in the Midwest! Happy and Safe Racing Folks!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish my mother and father in law Rick and Pat Grubb a very Happy 43rd Wedding Anniversary!
