Over 100 cars packed the pits this past Saturday night as many visiting cars came to New Paris Speedway to practice for the Late Model Summer Sizzler/Mini Stock Shootout which is later this week. Unfortunately, Mother Nature got in the way of our racing events as the rain made its way over Northern Indiana and stayed put for several hours making us forgo hotlaps and the heats. A big thanks goes out to all the drivers who took the cars out to help dry the track so that we were only running an hour behind our usual start time.
The Late Model A Feature saw past Late Model Champion Steve Stacy No. 95 start on the pole and jump out front first to take the lead. It looked as though Steve Stacy just might have the race in the bag until lap 37 when Ty Hayes No. 87 passed him for the lead and went on to take the checkered flag for his 6th A feature win of the year. Steve Stacy No. 95 drove a good race, earning 2nd place with points leader Bobby Stremme No. 35 finishing 3rd. Bringing home the checkered flag in the Late Model B Feature was Kim Nettrour No. 2.
The Street Stock A Feature pole sitter was Bruce Brown No. 48 with the “Doughboy” Larry Saunders to his right door. 2nd row inside was Mike Prescott No. 84 and 2nd row outside sat “Frosty” Scott Frost No. 125. This race did not start out well as before the first lap was ran, one driver decided to take the front row 3 wide going in to turn 3 which ended up putting several drivers into the pits with broken cars. The complete restart saw No. 125 Scott Frost sitting on the pole which ended up being all he needed as “Frosty” led every lap of the race and continued on to win his first A Feature of the season. Frosty dedicated his win to his “Two Dude’s Garage” Teammate Tim Davis who was killed in an accident a few weeks back. Bringing home 2nd was Al Maurer No. 1 and 3rd was Mike “Smokey” Robinson No. 67. Ronnie York No. 70 won the Street Stock B Feature.
There were 44 Mini Stocks on hand Saturday Night to prepare for the Mini Stock Shootout this week. On a normal Saturday night, it takes close to a 17.2 to make the Mini Stock A Feature. This week, several of New Paris’ fast Mini Stocks made the B with “Flyin” George Flowers making the pole of the A with a 16. 604. These driver’s were raring to go as it took 4 complete restarts to get one lap in but once it got started, it ran smoothly. George Flowers led the first 10 laps of the 20 lap feature then points leader Jim Anglemyer No. 6 took the lead and then on to the checkered flag first. Jim would like to thank Dave Cassel and Michael Landry for their help and then his sponsors, Monteith Tire, B & M Engines and Valvoline. 2nd place finisher was John Ong No. 82 while Floyd Wood No. 8 brought home 3rd. Merle Neff No. 7 brought home the checkered flag in the Mini Stock B Feature and Bobby Archer No. 86 won the Mini Stock C Feature.
The Late Model’s get to take the evening off as the Short Track Truck Series make their return to New Paris Speedway on Saturday, August 8th. Then on Saturday August 15th, The Late Model Challenge Series Race No. 5 promises to be a great show as always. Until then, Happy and Safe Racing!
