It seemed the 2009 season was the year of amazing Rookies at New Paris Speedway and one of the best was the No. 18 Mini Stock Driver, Timmy Dooley. “I started coming to New Paris Speedway in 2007 when I came to help the No. 11 Mini Stock of ‘Digger’ Dan Spratt. After two years of helping him, I decided it was time for me to race so Dan helped me get everything together and along with Phillip Moore and Ben Miller, we built my racecar.”
Timmy’s Rookie season had its fair share of ups and downs between hitting the wall a ton and two great wins. “My first win was the B Feature at the Mini Stock Shoot Out and then I won another Feature toward the end of the season.” “Hitting the wall was pretty scary. The only time I ever had butterflies in a racecar was the first night after I hit the wall. I was nervous during qualifying but the rest of the night, I was fine.” Timmy also had some issues with the car but with the help of a few veterans, the car got better and better and Timmy was able to go far this year.
“My initial goals for 2009 was to get Rookie of the Year and break into the 16’s. I accomplished the getting in the 16’s but I didn’t get Rookie of the year, which is ok because I did get a few wins, which I didn’t expect. I got to run a few A Features this year which I didn’t expect either, I think I enjoy running the A’s more because its much more competitive. When I am in the B, I just want to win but in the A, I have to fight for position. ” While its true that Timmy didn’t get Rookie of the Year, his teammate did and Timmy would like to congratulate his teammate, the ‘Dare Devil’ Davie Renbarger on this great accomplishment!
Timmy will be back out again next year in the Mini Stock class. “My goal for the 2010 season is to get Most Improved Driver but most of all, I just want to have fun and win some races! My overall goal is to win a championship in the Mini Stocks and then just move right up through the classes until I win the Late Model Championship one day.” Call me crazy but it sounds to me like Timmy Dooley is here to stay!
