This past Saturday night at the Plymouth Speedway they hosted Old Timer’s Night. Along with a variety of familiar faces from years gone by they hosted five great classes of cars.
The evening was kicked off with qualifying after practice was completed. Tyler Roarhig set fast time in the late models with a time of 13.291. In the sportsman division the field witnessed Derrick Griffin set the pace with a lap around the 3/8 mile in 14.174 seconds. Corey Lindsey set the pace for the first time this season for the street stocks with a time o15.564. The front wheel drive division saw Robert Reed set the pace with a time of 16.602.
After opening ceremonies it was time to start the racing action. The late models got the action started with their six lap dash for the six fastest qualifiers. Picking up the win was Ronnie Maynard.
The legend cars came out following the dash for their single eight lap heat. Tim Moore grabbed the win in a caution free affair.
The late models came out for their heat events. They ran two eight lap heats. Shane Sanders grabbed the first heat for the class while Rich Boal grabbed the second heat.
The sportsman ran two heat lap heats after the late models were complete. Matt Elliott picked up the fast heat win. The second heat was won by Kevin Clash for his first win of 2009.
The front wheel drive division ran two eight lap heats. Pee Wee Warren and Tom Helinga both won their respected heat events.
The street stocks were the last class of the night to run their two eight lap heats. Randy Presslor of Benton Harbor grabbed the first heat win. The second heat was won by Ryan Powell in his first appearance at the Plymouth Speedway in 2009.
The late models were the first feature event of the night. They ran a forty lap feature where Plymouth’s Rich Boal dominated the first thirty-seven laps. Shawn Amor pulled up along side of Boal for a side-by-side battle that lasted the remainder of the race. Boal slid sideways off turn four and skidded across the line for a second place finish while Amor picked up the last lap pass for the victory. Finishing in third from a tenth starting spot was Tyler Roarhig.
The legend cars were next with a fifteen lap feature. Jeff Cannon shot out to an early lead and never looked back at the field to earn the win.Tim Moore finished second while Chris King came in a close third.
The sportsman followed with a thirty lap feature. Rodney Smith held off Kevin Gunkel for his first win of the season. Gunkel finished his best feature of the season in second and Gary Wyrick finished in the third position.
The front wheel drive division ran a twenty lap feature and the crowd witnessed a first time winner. Pee Wee Warren completed the sweep and in dominating fashion grabbed his first feature win of his career. He was followed in second by Bryant Ragsdale and Glenn Walker finished in the third position.
The final event of the night was the street stock division and their twenty-five lap feature. Randy Presslor added to his point lead by winning his third feature race of the season. Stephanie Scott finished in a close second with Jeff Stettler in third.
This weekend at the Plymouth Speedway the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series returns for its one and only event at the race track for the 2009 season. They will also host the sportsman, street stocks, mini stocks, and the front wheel drive divisions. The racing action will begin at seven o’clock.
