The weather was beautiful at the Plymouth Speedway for the final race of the month of May. It featured the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman running a seventy-five lap feature.
After the practice sessions were complete it was time for qualifying. Two track records were broken on Saturday night. The first was in the front wheel drive division with Kelton Kaechle setting the pace with a lap of 16.475. The second record came in the CRA Sportsman when Keith Sterkowitz put down a lap in 14.087 seconds.
The fastest qualifier in the mini stock division was Dave Biesmeyer with a lap of 15.144. Roger Rubino made the fastest circuit in the street stocks with a lap time of 15.548.
After a brief opening ceremony the racing action began at 7:00. The first heat onto the race track was the front wheel drive division. Kelton Kaechle kept his streak of domination alive with the heat win.
The mini stocks ran two ten lap heat events. Zachery Newgent grabbed the fast heat win in the first heat. Kurt Gunkle won the second and final heat for the mini stock division.
The CRA Late Model Sportsman were the next three events. The first two were the ten lap heats for the cars locked into the seventy-five lap feature. Kale Asztalos picked up the first race, while Kevin Gunkle grabbed the second heat.
A fifteen lap last chance race was the last prelim race of the night for the CRA sportsman. The top two finishers would advance to the feature event. Mike Schewchuck won the event while Ron Belt finished second.
The final heat race of the night came for the street stock division. It was a ten lap battle where Corey Lindsey put himself in victory lane for the first time of the season.
After a brief intermission it was time for the feature events. The front wheel drives were the first division out for their fifteen lap feature event. Kelton Kaechle grabbed his second feature win in a row and completed the nightly sweep of his respected division. He was followed second by Eric Kiser and Robert Reed finished in the third position.
The mini stocks followed with a twenty-five lap feature event. Michael Mast held off a hard charging Dave Biesmeyer for the greater half of the event. Mast did this for his first feature win of the 2009 season at the Plymouth Speedway. Biesmeyer held on for second while Ben McCallum finished on the podium in third.
The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman were next with their seventy-five lap finale. Justin Alsip started outside row one and used to it to his advantage to lead from green to checker. Charlie Hanna had several looks to the inside of Alsip, but a late race caution put moisture down in the bottom groove and all chances for a pass were over. Hanna held on for second in front of third place finishing Steve Stacey. Lou Stremme crossed the line in fourth and Kale Asztalos rounded out the top five.
The final race of the night was the twenty lap street stock feature. Randy Presslor charged hard on the outside early to take a quick lead. Presslor never looked back to get his second feature win of the early season. Finishing second was Vic Humes and Stephanie Scott finished strong in the third position.
This Saturday night at the Plymouth Speedway will be Scout Night at the Track. It will include an autograph session before the racing action with all classes. The classes that will be hosted at the Plymouth Speedway this Saturday night include the Late Models, Sportsman, Mini Stocks, and the Super Cups. Racing action begins at seven o’clock.
